Use this all purpose baking mix just as you would Bisquick. Just remember to use water instead of milk since you'll be adding powdered milk into the mix.
Make up this big batch of mix and store in an air-tight container. You'll save money and your family won't know it's not Bisquick.
Ingredients: 5 pounds all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup baking powder, 3 tablespoons salt, 2 1/2 cups powdered milk, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar, 1/2 cut white sugar, 2 pounds solid vegetable shortening (I like Crisco).
Directions: Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until mix looks like cornmeal. Store in an air-tight container at room temp.
Remember to just use water instead of milk since you've added powdered milk already. Here's a couple of recipes that you can use to try out your mix.
Muffins: Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees. Ingredients: 3 cups of mix, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 egg, 1 cup of water. Mix dry ingredients together. Mix egg and water and combine with dry ingredients. Poor into lined or greased muffin pan and bake in 450 degree oven for 25 minutes. You can add optional items to the mix like 1 cup of raisins, or 1 cup of dried cranberries, or 1 cup of walnuts, or 1 cup of chocolate chips.
Cookies: Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Ingredients: 3 cups of mix, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1/3 cup water, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 cups chocolate chips. Combine ingredients and drop by tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes.
